New Graphic Medicine: Jan 2020

Here are the graphic medicine books that came out in January 2020. These lists will be about books that I have not yet read. If I have had the opportunity, I will let you know what I thought. If you have read one or more, please leave a comment about what you thought!


Go with the Flow by Lily Williams and Karen Schneemann

Release Date: January 14, 2020

This is a story about menstruation, women’s health, and female empowerment. It stresses the power of self-advocacy. The book is marketed for children ages 10-14.


Baby: A Soppy Story by Philippa Rice

Release Date: January 14, 2020

This is a series of comics about pregnancy, childbirth, and taking care of a newborn. These are experiences of Philippa Rice and Luke Pearson. While there is no overarching narrative, there is a common theme and the same characters.


Spring Rain by Andrew Warner

Release Date: January 28, 2020

This memoir features the topics of trauma and anxiety. The story takes place during a violent revolution and includes his friend group with LGBTQ+ people unsure of how to survive in the turmoil. 


Potential Graphic Medicine

Consent (for Kids!): Boundaries, Respect, and Being in Charge of YOU by Rachel Brian

Release Date: January 7, 2020

While I’m not certain how much health content there is in this book, consent is an important topic when it comes to health. That is especially true for children, which this is marketed toward.

Release Date: January 1, 2020

This is a memoir about mental health and identity. It is a self published book and includes themes of divorce, PTSD, bipolar, and music.
